EnergyMate helping keep homes warm this winter

Despite many discussions about the energy trilemma, affordability often gets overlooked. EnergyMate is a free, in-home energy coaching service for kiwis facing energy hardship. The Energy Retailers Association NZ have teamed up with local community partners including FinCap, a network of budget advisory services across 200 locations nationwide, to help over 1,500 families keep warm this winter.  Read more...

Further energy education funding available

Do you provide targeted, specialist energy advice or training to those experiencing energy hardship? Round two of the Support for Energy Education in Communities (SEEC) fund is open. There is $1.65m funding available in 2021/22 which can be used to prepare materials, hold hui or provide personalised advice in-home or over the phone. Read more...

The role of biogas

A joint study by Beca, FirstGas Group and Fonterra shows the potential for biogas and biomethane in New Zealand. "Our estimates indicate that implementation of wide-scale anaerobic digestion in New Zealand could produce enough renewable gas to supply all residential users and three quarters of commercial gas users with carbon free fuel," notes Eleanor Grant, Beca's Industrial Sustainability Lead. Read more...

Largest NZ solar array up and running - Sunergise

New Zealand's largest grid-connected solar power plant is up and running at Kapuni in South Taranaki. The Sunergise Kapuni Solar Power Plant has a capacity of 2.1MW, comprising 5,800 solar photovoltaic panels that will produce around 3GWh per annum. Sunergise NZ is a Todd Corporation company and leading provider of rooftop solar to commercial customers in New Zealand. Read more... 

Transpower's Consumer Advisory Panel update

In 2018, Transpower established a Consumer Advisory Panel, regularly meeting with consumer representatives including BEC to better understand customers' needs and interests. Last month the meeting covered everything from energy hardship, Consumer NZ's electricity retailer survey and the Powerswitch website, to Transpower's sustainability strategy. Read more...

Call for feedback on gas certificate rules

Certified Energy has just published a draft set of rules for certifying renewable gas, to help increase renewable gas production. All gas users, producers and anyone interested in the gas network are invited to give feedback. Visit their website to download the draft rules and register for updates. Read more...
