Asia-Pacific Economic Leaders meet

Last week also saw the launch of APEC's CEO Summit gathering Asia-Pacific's business and government leaders to discuss issues, among them the future of energy. New Concept report compares cost of options

A new report from Concept Consulting compares the costs of flexible hydrogen production against a range of other options including a large-scale pumped hydro scheme down south. The report finds hydrogen is the least-cost option to reach 100% renewables while keeping electricity supply sustainable and secure. It also considers low-cost options to 99% renewable with natural gas or liquid biofuels.  Read more...

Victoria University's new Renewables programme

Our 2050 net zero carbon goal will require additional skills and capacity across various sectors of the economy, with energy being a key focus area. In response, Victoria University aims to introduce a new postgraduate programme that is focused on Renewable Energy with specialisation in either engineering or analysis. Feedback is welcomed here

Genesis steps towards sustainable future

Recent announcements demonstrate Genesis' commitment to empowering New Zealand's sustainable future, not only through its own work, partnering with FRV Australia to become a leading developer of solar generation, but also in sharing knowledge and practical guides with others through its new Climate Change Hub - a meeting place for insights, ideas and inspiration on how we can use energy to help address climate change.   Read more... 

Hiringa's hydrogen refuelling stations 

Hiringa Refuelling are entering the construction phase of their first four green hydrogen refuelling stations. With $16m secured from the Covid-19 Recovery Fund,  together with local and international investment, the equipment for the stations is now being manufactured, and the first 20 Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) trucks have been ordered. The first stations will be located on Waitomo sites across Te Ika-a-Māui. Read more...

EECA's newest interactive online tools released

Where does our energy go? EECA has update their energy end use database and presented results in a new interactive online Sankey diagram, one of many online tools offered. Another tool recently released provides a public EV charger map of New Zealand. The team are currently consulting on developing a short-term roadmap for the public electric vehicle charging network.  Submissions close November 26.  Read more...

Transpower's new tool for generation developers

Envision Opportunities is Transpower's latest tool to help developers of new generation projects better understand the current capacity of the national network, and where it's best to connect. The tool is being launched on the back of increasing interest in new generation, particularly wind and solar, with enquiries increasing from around five a year to 40 last year.    Read more...

Climate Change and Business Conference
