Minister's priorities for '22 | Last month the Minister for Energy and Resources Hon Dr Megan Woods outlined four key priorities for the year. Gas supply-demand balance not as tight | A projected increase in gas supply, coupled with a decrease in gas demand means the wider 2022 supply-demand balance is a lot less tight than in 2021 according to a new report produced for Gas Industry Co by Concept Consulting. Although government ambitions have grown markedly in the past few years the carbon budget is running out, according to bp's Energy Outlook 2022. The report explores key uncertainties through three main scenarios: Accelerated, Net Zero and New Momentum. Turning kerbside waste into renewable gas | Firstgas Group is working with Ecogas, at their Reporoa biogas facility, to turn kerbside waste into renewable gas for use in homes and businesses. Once up and running in 2023 this will help reduce NZ's emissions, producing enough renewable gas to supply the equivalent of around 9,000 households and bio-fertiliser for around 2,000 hectares of local farmland.
