Event Date:

1st Sep 2021 2:00pm-3:30pm

Description:

DUE TO THE RECENT COVID LOCKDOWN THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. A RESCHEDULED DATE IS YET TO BE CONFIRMED

Join us to hear Mike Fuge, CEO at Contact Energy and Guy Waipara, General Manager Development at Meridian Energy,

provide insights into their collaboration, feasibility study and proposed development of the

world’s first large-scale green hydrogen plant in the lower South Island.

The vision is to develop a market leading, export focused green hydrogen plant which will ultimately support the development and decarbonisation

of both the domestic and overseas economies and help New Zealand’s transition to a 100 per cent renewable electricity generation system.

Green hydrogen is regarded as the most promising energy source to decarbonise sectors such as

heavy transportation and industrial processes that currently rely on fossil fuels.

It can also be designed to vary its production to suit the New Zealand electricity system, particularly during dry years.

While the hydrogen production is not economic currently, various factors could align in New Zealand and around the world to make it so.

As a highly versatile, transportable solution to decarbonisation, green hydrogen has the potential to become a valuable global commodity.
