Future energy leaders off to
World Energy Week

All three members from the New Zealand FEL-100 programme are attending the World Energy Week in Milan this week. Bennet Tucker (Transpower and FEL secretary), Buddhika Rajapakse (Mercury) and Daniel Gnoth (Powerco) will be presenting findings from their respective working groups at the Future Energy Leaders’ Summit into topics such as digitalisation in the energy sector, market design and electricity storage.

This is the main annual meeting of the World Energy Council where delegates will have the opportunity to take part in the Executive Assembly, Regional Meetings and the Energy Transition Summit.

NZ decarbonisation pathway;
plant more trees

The government's commitment to reducing carbon emissions has further signalled the importance of having a holistic approach. The recent announcement of the 2018 endeavour research funds, New Zealand's largest science and innovation funding pool, awarded $11,455,000 to National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research to advance NZ's carbon inventory.

The research will investigate the amount of carbon which can be absorbed by forests, grassland and urban environments by combining measurements of carbon dioxide, methane, weather models and isotope analysis.
